What is the relationship between the volume of a cone and the volume of a cylinder? Explain.

Sample Response: When a cone and cylinder have the same height and radius the cone will fit inside the cylinder. The volume of the cone will be one-third that of the cylinder. If the radius or height are different, then there is no relationship between them.

These figures have curved surfaces, not flat faces. A cylinder is similar to a prism, but its two bases are circles, not polygons. Also, the sides of a cylinder are curved, not flat. A cone has one circular base and a vertex that is not on the base.
