On a coordinate grid, your campsite is located at ( -4, 10 ), and the next checkpoint is located at ( -10, -1 ). Each unit in the coordinate plane represents 1.55 miles. Find the distance you have to hike to reach the next checkpoint station. A) About 19.4 miles B) About 16.6 miles C) About 25.8 miles D) About 12.5 miles

Find the distance (in coordinate plane units) from (-4,10) to (-10,-1).

The change in x will be -6 and the change in y will be -11.

Thus, the distance between the 2 pts is, by the Pythagorean Theorem,

sqrt( [-6]^2 + [-11]^2 ) = sqrt(157).

Convert this to miles:

sqrt(157 units^2) = 12.6 units

1.55 mi
12.6 units * ------------- = 19.4 miles (answer)
1 unit

Answer:

Distance = 19.4 miles

Explanation:

On a coordinate grid, your campsite is located at ( -4, 10 ), and the next checkpoint is located at ( -10, -1 )

To find out the distance we apply distance formula

D=√((x_2-x_1)^2+(y_2-y_1)^2)

D=√((-10+4)^2+(-1-10)^2)

D=√((-6)^2+(-11)^2)

D=√(157)

D=12.53

Each unit in the coordinate plane represents 1.55 miles

Distance = 12.53 times 1.55 = 19.4 miles
