Ernie is making a cylinder-shaped container to store his pens. The container has a base on one end and an opening on the other end. He is going to spray paint the outside of the container. The container has a diameter of 3 inches and a height of 18 inches. What is the surface area of the container? Use 3.14 for​ π . Enter your answer, as a decimal, in the box.

diameter of container=3 in
radius=r=3/2=1.5 in
height=h=18 in
As cylinder has only one end closed,so we add only that one end area to the cylinder(exclude the open end area):
Total surface area= (surface area of cylinder having both end open)+( area of one circular end)
= 2πrh + πr²
= 2(3.14)(1.5)(18) + (3.14)(1.5)²
=176.625 in²
