1,188 because if you make triangles on both sides, the middle piece becomes a sqaure (so all 4 sides of a square are equal, so they are all 33) so 33 times 33 is 1,089. Then you find out the area of the triangles. Since there are 2 you just do base times height and dont divide it by 2 (again since there are 2 triangles) so the base of the triangle has to be 3 because the length of one side of the parallelogram was 36, but then became 33 when you took away the triangles (36-3=33) so 33 times 3 is 99. 99 plus 1,089 is 1,188.
