First write 39 1/5 as a proper fraction.

39 1/5 =196/5

A radical number should have a root symbol. To make this number has a root symbol and maintain its value, we have to square it.

(196/5)² = 38,416/25

∴ 39 1/5 = (√38,416)/(√25) or

= √1,536.64
