Their daily rate is
v= (6)/(3)=2 miles per day

Using distance-speed-time formula, we can calculate the time
t= (s)/(v) = (42)/(2) = 21days

They need 21-3=18 more days to finish the trip

Answer:

They need 4 days to finish the trip.

Explanation:

Kim and Jim went on a 42-mile canoe trip.

They have traveled 6 miles per day for three days.

Their travelling rate per day = 6 miles.

To cover 42-mile trip at the rate of 6 miles per day they need total =
(42)/(6) = 7 days

They traveled 3 days now they need to finish the trip = 7 - 3 = 4 days.

They need 4 days to finish the trip.
