RNA polymerase binds to the promoter sequence on the DNA molecule.
The promoter has a TATA box, which binds with the TBP (TATA binding protein) that is in the RNA polymerase multiprotein complex. The TSS (transcription start site) indicates where RNA polymerase can start transcription.
