You can use the cancellation method to solve.

x + y = 3
2x - y = 6
--------------------
3x + 0 = 9
3x = 9
3x / 3 = 9 / 3
x = 3

So x =3

A graph shows the lines intersect at (x, y) = (3, 0).

The x-coordinate of the solution to this system is 3.

_____
You can add the equations to get
3x = 9
x = 9/3 = 3
