His son was killed in a train wreck. What's worse, because his wife disagreed with his agreement to be president, she blamed him for their sons death

In 1837, the United States was in a big economic depression, or time when business is bad and many people are out of work. The depression was not Martin Van Buren's fault, but he took a lot of the blame anyway.
