A custodian plans to repaint some classroom bookcases. She has 6 1/4 gallons of paint. All of the bookcases are the same size and each requires 2/3 gallon of paint. How many bookcases will the custodian be able to repaint with that amount of paint?

Answer:

9 bookcases

Explanation:

(6 1/4) divide by 2/3 convert the first one to a mixed fraction, 6*4 =24 +1 = 25/4

and then common denominator 2/3 = 8/12 and 25/4 = 75/12 and then 75 / 8 = 9.----- but you can only paint 9.
