I believe that the answer is that, all substances can be classified as either organic or inorganic substances.
Organic compound are a large class of gaseous, liquid, or solid compounds whose molecules contain one or more carbon atoms that are covalently linked to atoms of other elements, mainly, hydrogen, oxygen or nitrogen. Inorganic compounds on other hand are compounds with no carbon element on them, such as water.
