There are 16 cups in a gallon. Convert gallons into cups:

9 * 16 = 144

34 guests ate 2 and 1/2 cups of ice cream. To find the total amount of ice cream they ate, multiply the cups eaten by each guest by the amount of guests.

34 * 2 (1)/(2) = 85

Subtract the total amount the guests ate by the amount of cups provided.

144 - 85 = 59

There are 2 cups in a pint. To convert cups into pints, divide the cups by 2.

59 / 2 = 29 (1)/(2)

There are 29 and a half pints of ice cream left over from the party.
