According to the Supreme Court, the reason why could Maryland not tax the National Bank is that it was not planned by the Constitution. From Chief Justice John Marshall, the United States was not designed to be dependent on the states because it could destroy the Federal government.

According to the Supreme Court, Maryland could not tax the National Bank as this was not intended by the Constitution. According to Chief Justice John Marshall, the United States was not designed to be dependent on the states and this could destroy the Federal government.
