The slope-intercept form of the equation of a line that passes through point (–3, 8) is y = –2/3x + 6. What is the point-slope form of the equation for this line? Possible answers:

y – 3 = –(x + 8)
y + 3 = –(x – 8)
y + 8 = –(x – 3)
y – 8 = –(x + 3)

Point-slope form uses the following formula:

y - y1 = m(x - x1)

(x1,y1) is already given as (-3,8), and we have our slope, -2/3, so plug in the values into the formula. The following equation should be your answer:

y + 3 = - (2)/(3) (x-8)
