A 19% discount on a watch saved a shopper $76. Find the price of the watch before the discount.

The best way to solve would be to make an equation and solve it
The problems statement says he save $76 not that he spent $76 on the watch
So
Multiply a percentage by the original price will give you savings
19% = 0.19
P= price of water before discount

P*0.19=$76

Solve for P by dividing 76 by .19

P=76/0.19=$400
