Why is an attack of a viral disease often sudden and extensive?

A viral disease is sudden since the symptoms are not being shown until it will become to late to help the person having a disease. It is also extensive due to the lytic cycle. In this phase, the virus then would enter the cell then reproduce a copy,destroy a cell then releases several copies of itself in the entire body.
