A fresh water tank shaped like a rectangular prism has a length of 72 in. a width of 24 in. and a height of 25 in. The tank is filled with water at a constant rate of 5 cubic feet per hour. How long will it take to fill the tank half way?

Please help me ✌

Final answer:

The time it will take to fill the tank halfway is 2.5 hours.

Step-by-step explanation:

To calculate the time it takes to fill the tank halfway, we need to determine the volume of the tank and then divide it by the rate at which water is being filled.

The volume of a rectangular prism is given by V = l * w * h, where l is the length, w is the width, and h is the height. Plugging in the given values, we find V = 72 in. * 24 in. * 25 in. = 43,200 in³.

Since 1 ft³ is equivalent to 1,728 in³, we can convert the volume to cubic feet by dividing 43,200 in³ by 1,728 in³/ft³, giving us V = 25 ft³.

Now, we divide the volume by the rate of filling, which is 5 ft³/hour, to find the time taken to fill half the tank. In this case, half the tank is 25 ft³ / 2 = 12.5 ft³.

Therefore, the time it will take to fill the tank halfway is 12.5 ft³ / 5 ft³/hour = 2.5 hours.

First, you have to find the volume of the whole tank. Length times width times height in the case, would equal 43200 cubic feet. Then, because it is half the tank, we divide that in half, to get 21600. If it takes 1 hour to fill 5 cubic feet, we divide 21600 by 5. This shows that it would take 8640 hours to fill.
