Edward is studying the phenotype of his victim. He knows that both the biological parents of the victim have a dominant gene for brown eyes. The mother has a recessive gene for blue eyes and the father has a recessive gene for green eyes. Knowing that green eyes are dominant over blue eyes, what does Edward conclude about the victim?

A- The victim has a 50 percent chance of having blue eyes.
B-The victim has a 25 percent chance of having blue eyes.
C- The victim has a 50 percent chance of having green eyes.
D-The victim has 25 percent chance of having green eyes.
E-The victim has a 25 percent chance of having brown eyes.

Answer:

D-The victim has 25 percent chance of having green eyes

Step-by-step explanation:

Let allele for brown eyes = B'

Let allele for green eyes = B

Let allele for blue eyes = b

Given, brown > green > blue

Victim's mother = B'b

Victim's father = B'B

When, B'b X B'B :

B' b

B' B'B' B'b

B B'B Bb

As evident; B'B', B'b and B'B have brown eyes because of presence of the most dominant allele B'. So there is 75% chance of the victim to have brown eyes. Only 25% have Bb genotype which will result in green eyes since B is dominant over b.

Hence, The victim has 25 percent chance of having green eyes.
