1 2/3.

Convert the mixed numbers into improper fractions.

10/3 - 5/3

Subtract the numerators.

10-5=5

Leave the same denominator.

You get 5/3

Covert 5/3 back into a mixed number,

1 2/3

To convert an improper fraction to a mixed number multiply the whole number by the denominator and add the numerator. That is your new numerator and you keep the denominator.

Ex: 2 1/3

You would multiply 2 by 3 and get 6, plus 1 which is 7. The improper fraction would be 7/3.

To turn an improper fraction into a mixed number you see how many times the denominator can go into the numerator fully, that's your new whole number and keep the denominator.

Ex: 5/2

2 can go into 5 twice so the whole number is 2. There is 1 left in the numerator and that stays, so does the denominator.

5/2 = 2 1/2

Hope this helped! Good luck!
