The distance between the house and the subway is given by:
d=√[(x-x1)²+(y-y1)²]
Thus given the coordinates:
(-1,9) and (2,-4)
thus
d=√[(2-(-1))²+(-4-9)²]
d=√[(3)²+(-13)²]
d=√[9+169]
d=√178
d=13.34 ~13 units
