The problem is asking that we add the following two expressions:

(4.6x – 3) + (-5.3x + 9)

When adding or subtracting binomials, you need only to add or subtract similar terms. In this case, you will add the two coefficients of X (4.6 and -5.3) and the two constants (-3 and 9). Let’s try this first step now:

4.6x + (-5.3)x = (-0.7)x

Now we’ll add the two constants:
