Italy originally was part of the Central Powers but then turned away and eventually joined the Allies later on in the war.

During June 1940, Italy decided to side with the Central Powers. When the Allies took over Sicily in July 1943, Italy withdrew from their alliance with the Central Powers and joined the Allies.
