A softball pitcher has 0.626 probability of throwing a strike for each pitch if the softball pitcher throws 30 pitches what is the probability that no more than 16 of them are strikes?

I think It's 1.17375 cause I did 0.626 × 30 to get 18.78 and divided by 16

Answer:

Probability of throwing a strike by softball pitcher =0.626=Success=S

Probability of not hitting the strike by softball pitcher = 1 - 0.626=0.374=Failure=F

If, x is a random variable, then possible values of strike are

x=0,1,2,3,4,5,6......,13,14,15,16.

If the softball pitcher throws 30 pitches ,probability that no more than 16 of them are strikes

=_(0)^(C)\textrm{30}S^0F^(30)+_(1)^(C)\textrm{30}S^1F^(29)+_(2)^(C)\textrm{30}S^2F^(28)+_(3)^(C)\textrm{30}S^3F^(27)+.............+_(15)^(C)\textrm{30}S^(15)F^(15)+_(16)^(C)\textrm{30}S^(16)F^(14)

= 0.19377, for S=0.626, F=0.374

=0.194(approx)

is the required Probability.
