Two sides of an obtuse triangle measure 12 inches and 14 inches. The longest side measures 14 inches.

What is the greatest possible whole-number length of the unknown side?

If you add the lengths of two sides, 12 and 14, you will get 28. the third side cannot be greater than or equal to 28. Therefore, the greatest possible whole-number length of the unknown side is 27.
