check the picture below.

so, as you can see, the bottom of it is just a 8x8 square, whilst one of the 4 triangular faces is just a triangle with a base of 8 and a height of 5.

so, we can simply get the area of the base and the 4 triangular faces and sum them up, that's the surface area of the pyramid.

\bf \stackrel{\textit{area of base}}{(8\cdot 8)}~~~~+~~~~\stackrel{\textit{area of the 4 triangles}}{4\left[\cfrac{1}{2}(8)(5) \right]}

Answer:

Area of square pyramid = 144 inch²

Explanation:

Area of square pyramid = Area of square + Area of 4 triangles.

Side of square = 8 inches.

Area of square = 8 x 8 = 64 inch²

Triangle is of base 8 inch and height 5 inch.

Area of triangle = 0.5 x base x height = 0.5 x 8 x 5 = 20 inch²

Area of 4 triangles = 4 x 20 = 80 inch²

Area of square pyramid = Area of square + Area of 4 triangles.

Area of square pyramid = 64 + 80 = 144 inch²

Area of square pyramid = 144 inch²
