The colonial rule in Africa has had a long lasting effect on the new African nations that can be seen even in the present. Some of the ways in which the colonial rule influenced the development of the new African nations are:
- segregation during the colonial rule and not equal opportunities
The Africans were not allowed to educate themselves, and they were pushed on the margin. This led to uneducated and inexperienced people to come on the political scene and not lead their countries properly.
- using the raw materials of the African nations
Considering that the African leaders were and still are very corrupt and have had very bad policies, the European countries have used that and they buy out the natural resources or the raw materials from this nations, thus they benefit, while the African nations don't.
- setting up borders that are not corresponding with the interests of the African nations
The borders that have been set were not good for the future of these nations, as people with lot of bad blood between them, be it because of ethnicity, history, religion, were put in the same boundary, resulting in lot of conflicts and bloodshed.
