a point is translated 2 units to the right and five units down on the coordinate plane, how will this affect the x- and y- coordinates of the point?

Let x start out as x
Let y start out as y

The original point is (x , y)
Start with moving the x 2 units to the right.
To the right means going more positive.
x would become x + 2

down means the value is going in the minus y direction you are subtracting 5 from the original y
y - 5 is what you get.

The answer is
(x + 2, y - 5) <<<<<< answer
