Why might it be important to have plants form a callus before a plantlet develops?

This is because a plant callus is composed of unorganized and undifferentiated cells that are capable of growing and differentiating into any part of a plant or a whole plant. Callus are treated with requisite plant hormones such as auxins and cytokinins to induce differentiation hence able to form a plantlet.
