After leaving the ileum (which is the last part of small intestine), the chyme, partly digested food goes to the cecum. The cecum is the part between the small intestine and the ascending colon of the large intestine. The cecum the site of the appendix attachment. The large intestine is the last part of the digestive tract where water and some minerals are reabsorbed back into the blood. The waste products of digestion (feces) are defecated from the anus via the rectum.
