Hi there!

During Gastric Surgery, when food is eaten it enters a "new" or "different" stomach, then travels downward into the Jejunum bypassing (skipping) the upper part of the patients intestine. This action, decreases the amount of calories allowed into the body.

Hope this helps you!

Answer:

A colostomy is made by connecting the colon to the outside of the abdomen, bypassing the lower gastrointestinal tract.

A colectomy is a surgery that removes or excises a portion of the colon.
