A wheelchair ramp rises from the ground at 4.5 angle of elevation. The end of the ramp is 3ft above the ground. How long is the ramp? Round your answer to the nearest tenth of a foot.

We need to look at the triangle, where ramp is a hypotenuse, and 3ft above the ground is an opposite leg.


sin( \alpha )= (opposite. leg)/(hypotenuse) \\ \\ hypotenuse= (opposite. leg)/(sin( \alpha )) \\ \\ hypotenuse= (3)/(sin(4.5^(o))) =38.2(ft)
