The Berlin airlift lasted from June 1948 till May 1949, after the first C-47 cargo plane landed in Berlin as a response to the blockade of Berlin by the Soviet Union. In August 1961, the communist government started building a wall in Berlin after many people started moving to the west.
The government argued that the reason behind the wall was to keep the citizens in and separate the east from the west while the soviets said it is to keep capitalism out. After 28 years of building the wall, and on the 10th of November 1989, the Berlin wall was destructed responding to several demands for freedom of movement.
