Figurative Language is language used in a way that differs from its literal meaning. A reader it cannot interpret figurative language by thinking about the meaning of the individual words. To interpret figurative language, the reader must have understand the context of the text. Figurative language tells about the reader more about from the meaning of a text.
Example: Interpreting Figurative Language
A free bird leaps
on the back of the wind
and floats downstream
till the current ends
and dips his wing
in the orange sun rays
and dares to claim the sky.
