The U.S. decided on a strategy of containment where the U.S. would do anything in its power to prevent another country from falling to communism and give military and monetary aid to any lead who was anti-communist, whereas the Soviet Union attempted to assist and communist party anywhere in the world take power. Both sides also started proxy wars in third world countries.
