Why would the United States take action to stop the deployment of missiles to Cuba?

mainly because of how close it would be to the USA, specifically Florida, and how it would give very little warning to get to shelter in a populated area. To put this in perspective the ICBM missles at the time could travel up to 5,000+ miles per hour and Cuba is only 500 miles away from Florida meaning it would take roughly about 5 minutes for the missiles to hit when everyone would expect a 15-25 minute warning at the time.
