Question 1
3x + 6 = 24

Subtract 6 from both sides

3x = 18

Divide both sides by 3

x = 6

The answer is 6

Question 2
x/4 + 1 = -5

Subtract 1 from both sides

x / 4 = -6

Multiply both sides by 4

x = -24

The answer is -24
