Atoms with different amounts of neutrons while having the same number of protons are known as isotopes. Some isotopes can be stable and others radioactive; for example, Carbon-12 is a very common and stable element, but it’s sister isotope C-14 is a radioisotope with a half life of 5,280 years (carbon dating).
