Answer :
In Ernest Hemingway's 'The old man and the sea' Santiago is willing to do his job despite being in physical pain. Joe Dimaggio is a partially handicapped basketball player who has a bone spur in his heel. Due to his courage and determination he often features in Santiago's (the old man) thoughts and dreams. With his leadership qualities, Joe Dimaggio is a source of inspiration for the old man. When the old man's left hand cramps and he is in great pain he reminds himself of Dimaggio's determination to win win inspite of all his disabilities. This renews his strength and gives him the stamina required to bear his own physical pain in order to get the job at hand done.
