The main factor that has contributed to Myanmar to not develop a national identity is the diversity in the country. There are lots of diverse ethnic groups in the country like Bamar, Chin, Kachin, Kayin, Kayah, Mon, Rakhine, Shan, and lots of others. Most of this ethnic groups have conflicts between each other, based on ethnicity, but also on religion, as well as culture. A big factor is also the poor economic state. This has led to hatred between the ethnic groups in the country, and very often there's violent clashes and killing.
