So I'll ask those underground for pardon—
since I'm being compelled, I will obey
those in control. That's what I'm forced to do.
It makes no sense to try to do too much.

In your own words, explain the lines spoken by Ismene and what they reveal about her character, how her character differs from Antigone's, and how she feels about divine authority and human authority.

The lines reveal a multitude of observations about Ismene's character. Ismene feels a far greater loyalty to the king and his earthly power than to the gods, and their divine power. She differs from Antigone in this way, for Antigone experiences the need to serve only the divine beings. Ismene treasures human authority, and forsakes divine authority - she takes the gods' power with a grain of salt.

From this passage I can infer that Ismene doesn't have a desire to be independent nor a person who chooses to stand up for her self. As you can see, the passage says,"...I will obey those in control. That's what I am forced to do.",(Ismene). As you can see she tends to lean toward "the follower image" and not "the leader image".
