Two trucks are traveling in the same direction, one going twice as fast as the other. At the end of 6 hours they are 204 miles apart. How fast is each traveling?

Explanation:

Step one:

given data

let the speed of the first truck be x mph

and the speed of the second truck be 2x mph

time taken = 6 hours

total distance = 204 miles

Step two:

from speed = distance/time

distance= speed*time

hence

2x*6-6x= 204

12x+6x= 204

6x= 204

divide both side by 6

x= 204/6

x=34 mph

The second truck was moving at

=2x

=2*34

=68 mph
