Robert is purchasing some equipment for his baseball team. He wants to buy some baseballs, each priced at m dollars. He has already spent b dollars on other equipment.

The following expression represents the total amount Robert will spend after buying x baseballs.



If the amount already spent by Robert on other equipment, b dollars, is doubled, then the value of m will______________________ .

  • The amount he already spent on other things is $b dollars
  • Let's the the total amount spent by Robert be $c. Thus ,


c=m*x+b\\c=mx+b

According to the question , the given amount for spending totally is a constant = $c .

1. If the expenditure on other equipment doubles , and payment remains constant ,


c=m_1*x+2*b\\c=m_1x+2b\\mx+b=m_1x+2b\\m=(mx-b)/(x)
