He was one of the first notable soloists in jazz, surpassing other soloists. Due to his anger issues,his career had a slow start and it was in the late 1940s that his song gained widespread recognition.

In the year 1968 Sidney bechet was honored by being inducted into the downbeat magazine hall of fame.
