Answer:

sweatshirts(x) = $24, shorts(y) = $12, t-shirts(z) = $8

Explanation:

x = sweatshirts : y = shorts : z = t-shirts

price of sweatshirt is twice the price of shorts

x = 2y

price of t-shirt is 4 less the price of shorts

z = y - 4

purchased 3 sweatshirts, 2 shorts, and 5 t-shirts for 136

3x + 2y + 5z = 136

now we sub the first two equations into the 3rd one

3x + 2y + 5z = 136

3(2y) + 2y + 5(y - 4) = 136

6y + 2y + 5y - 20 = 136

13y = 156

y = 156/13

y = 12

x = 2y.....2(12) = 24

z = y - 4....12 - 4 = 8

check..

3x + 2y + 5z = 136

3(24) + 2(12) ++ 5(8) = 136

72 + 24 + 40 = 136

136 = 136 (correct)
