I am standing 160 feet from a tree 110 feet tall. What is the distance from myself to the top of the tree?

Answer: About 194

This needs to be solved using Pythagorean theorem. Let’s first write out the equation for that.

a^2+b^2=c^2

160 and 110 will both substitute into a and b. This means we will have to solve for c. Let’s substitute this now.

a^2+b^2=c^2

160^2+110^2=c^2

Let’s solve with what we have

160^2+110^2=c^2

25600+12100=c^2

37700=c^2

To get the final answer, we need to get the square root of both c^2 and 3700

√37700= √c^2

~194
