The graphs of the lines 2 x + 4 y = 0 and 2 x + y = 10 intersect in a point. What is the x-coordinate of that point?

we have : lines 2 x + 4 y = 0 and 2 x + y = 10

Let ,

2 x + 4 y = 0............. (1)

2 x + y = 10...............(2)

solve these equations for x and y

Now subtract (2) from (1) ,we get

3y=-10

⇒y =
(-10)/(3)

Put the value of y in (1) , we get

2x+4(
(-10)/(3)) = 0

⇒2x=
(40)/(3)

⇒x=
(20)/(3)

∴ Point of intersection is
((20)/(3),(-10)/(3) ).

Hence,the x-coordinate of that point is
(20)/(3).
