Water is flowing through a pipe of inner diameter 1.6 cm at a speed of 4.3 m/s. If the pipe is at a height of 5.2 m and then descends to a height of 2.1 m, what is the speed of the water at the lower height?

To solve this problem we will use the concepts related to the continuity of the fluid in a channel. For this we know that the proportion or relationship:


Q_1 = Q_2 \rightarrow volumetric flow rate


A_1V_1 = A_2 V_2

Where,

A_{1,2} = Area at each section

V_{1,2} = Velocity at each section

Since the pipe preserves its diameter, we will have to
A_1 = A_2 and therefore immediately that


V_1 = V_2

Therefore the speed at the exit will be the same:
4.3m / s
