In Big Head High School, there are 2012 students. Sixteen students have exactly 1 sibling studying at the same school, 12 have exactly 2 siblings there, 8 have exactly 3 siblings and 5 have exactly 4 siblings. Every other student from the school have no sibling studying in the same high school. How many families are there that have at least one child studying in Big Head High School?​

16 students have exactly 1 sibling studying at the same school, so 8 families have 2 children at this school, because
16/ 2=8 families.

12 students have exactly 2 siblings studying at the same school, so 4 families have 3 children at this school, because
12/ 3=4 families.

8 students have exactly 3 siblings studying at the same school, so 2 families have 4 children at this school, because
8/ 4=2 families.

5 students have exactly 4 siblings studying at the same school, so 1 family has 5 children at this school, because
5/ 5=1 family.

Remaining students =
2,012-16-12-8-5=1,981

So, 1,981 families have only one children in this school.

Total number of families:


8+4+2+1+1,981=1,996
