your basically multiplying everything in the first parenthesis by everything in the second parenthesis

(x + 4y + z)(x - 7y) =

x(x - 7y) + 4y(x - 7y) + z(x - 7y) =....keep in mind, 4yx is the same as 4xy

x^2 - 7xy + 4xy - 28y^2 + zx - 7zy....combine like terms

x^2 - 3xy - 28y^2 + zx - 7zy <---- your answer

this is the distributive property
