The heights of a sample of husbands and wives in the heightlands are given below. Write down an equation (i.e. the regression equation) predict the height of a husband (Y) from the height of his wife (X). What is the correlation coefficient for this equation? Height of Husband: 72 68 63 59 Height of Wife: 67 63 58 54

Answer:

correlation coefficient is 1

Explanation:

Given that the heights of a sample of husbands and wives in the heightlands are given below.

Wife 67 63 58 54

Husband 72 68 63 59

We can see a pattern from the table that husband is 5 inches taller than wife.

Hence regression equation would be

y = x+5

This is perfectly linear since constant slope of 1 and all points satisfy this equaiton.

This means relationship is perfectly linear and hence

correlation coefficient is 1
